2018 Annual Report

2018 saw an expanded focus for the Foundation. We continued our strong support for two important programs for Southeast Valley active adults: The Home Delivered Meals Scholarship (HDM) and Secure Lockbox Programs. In addition, because of the success of our golf fundraising event, we were able to support other Southeast Valley organizations including About Care and Hospice of the Valley (HOV) Lund Family Home.

The Gilbert Senior Center HDM program provides one hot meal daily for temporarily or permanently home bound individuals who are unable to obtain meals through federal programs. We were able to provide funds sufficient to subsidize more than 33%of the meals furnished by this program this year.

Gilbert Fire and Rescue (GF&R) provides lock boxes to hold house keys for physically and/or medically challenged seniors who are likely to require First Responder assistance. The lockbox keys provide First Responders with a means to enter a home without having to break in. The Foundation provides nearly 100% of the ongoing funding for this program.

About Care provides services without cost to home bound residents and their caregivers in Gilbert, Chandler and Queen Creek. Services include transportation to medical appointments and social activities, shopping and errands, respite care, computer assistance, reassuring weekly phone calls, and minor home repairs. The Foundation’s gifts benefit many Southeast Valley residents.

HOV Lund Family Home in Gilbert provides respite and end of life care for patients in the Southeast Valley.

These programs are described under the Fund-Raising Projects tab on our website.

Major fundraising events in 2018includeda wine tasting event in October and the Second Annual Foundation Golf Outing in November. The wine tasting event attracted 60 participants and many additional contributions netting over $2,100 for the Trilogy library to establish a large print and audio book collection.

The golf outing attracted96 golfers, 29 sponsors and other guests and raised over $14,800 for the HDM Scholarship, Lockbox, About Care, HOV and other Foundation Programs. We greatly appreciate the tremendous support from the Trilogy community and its friends for this event.

Other donations to the Foundation provided six new benches now located by the sports courts and in other Trilogy sites and provided seven additional memorial bricks for the Tranquility Courtyard. The Foundation also received additional donations from many individuals for its charitable programs.

In October, the Foundation was a sponsor for the Gilbert “I Run 4 Good” event that raised funds for AZCEND, which operates the Gilbert Senior Center. All sponsorship funds went to support Senior Center programs.

The Foundation provided funds for three pieces of fitness equipment for the Trilogy Fitness Center.

The Foundation continues to participate in the Fry’s and Amazon Smile community giving programs. These are described under Fund Raising Programs on our web site.

Many thanks to all board members for their dedicated volunteer service. We also appreciate the service of the many volunteers who assisted at the wine tasting and golf outing events.Special thanks go to Janet Peterson for her assistance is maintaining the Foundation’s financial records.

At year end the Foundation retained Sechler Morgan for accounting and financial services. We acquired QuickBooks online for easy access by the Treasurer and Sechler Morganto our financial records.

At year end the Foundation had total assets of $48,831, of which $27,521was donor or board restricted for the HDM and Lockbox Programs, pickleball court amenities, ballroom remodeling, community benches, AV equipment and other programs to improve the health and well-being of active adults in the Southeast Valley.

In 2018, Foundation operating expenses, before expenses for events, totaled $5,878for insurance, accounting, governmental fees, printing, postage, mail box rental supplies, and other operating expenses. The Foundation had no personnel expenses since all services are provided by volunteers. We also paid the balance on our loan, leaving us debt free.
