2017 saw a change in focus for the Foundation.  We focused our support on two important programs for Southeast Valley active adults: The Home Delivered Meals Scholarship (HDM) and Secure Lockbox Programs.  The HDM program is operated by the Gilbert Senior Center and provides one hot meal daily for temporarily or permanently home bound individuals who are unable to obtain meals through federal programs. We were able to provide funds sufficient to subsidize about 33% of the meals furnished under this program in the fiscal year.

Gilbert Fire and Rescue (GF&R) provides lock boxes to hold house keys for physically and/or medically challenged seniors with a probability that it may be necessary to call 911 for assistance.  The lockbox keys provide First Responders with a means to enter a home without having to break in.  The Foundation provides ongoing funding for this program.

These programs are described under the Fund Raising Projects tab on our web site.

The RideChoice Program, previously supported, was changed and improved for Gilbert residents such that further Foundation support was unnecessary.

Major fundraising events in 2017 included a wine tasting event in January co-sponsored by the Trilogy Hiking Club and the First Annual Foundation Golf Outing in November.  The Hiking Club event was nearly sold out and raised almost $900 for the Lockbox program.  The golf outing attracted 96 golfers, more than 12 sponsors and other guests and raised $6,400 for the HDM Scholarship, Lockbox and other Foundation Programs.

Other donations to the Foundation provided twelve memorial bricks installed in the Trilogy Tranquility Courtyard and two memorial benches elsewhere in Trilogy. The Foundation received donations from Trilogy Creative Design, Mah Jongg and Pickleball Clubs, and from many individuals for its charitable programs.

The Foundation provided funds for two pieces of fitness equipment and for stage microphones in Trilogy.

The Foundation continues to participate in the Fry’s and Amazon Smile community giving programs. These are described under Fund Raising Programs on our web site.

Mike Larson stepped up to President and Bill Katz moved to Treasurer in 2017.  Jan Burness retired from the Board.  We thank all board members for their volunteer service and we appreciate the service of the many volunteers who assisted at the wine tasting and golf outing events.  Special thanks go to Janet Peterson for her assistance is maintaining the Foundation’s financial records.

At year end the Foundation had total assets of $39,901, of which $26,359 was donor or board restricted for the HDM and Lockbox Programs, pickleball court amenities, fitness and AV equipment, memorial bricks and benches, and other programs to improve the health and well-being of active adults in the Southeast Valley.

In 2017, Foundation operating expenses, before expenses for the golf outing, totaled $2,763 for insurance, governmental fees, printing, postage, mail box rental and operating expenses.  The Foundation had no personnel expenses since all services are provided by volunteers.  We also reduced out outstanding interest free loan by $1,030, leaving a balance of $3,366.  With a payment of $2,200 planned for January 2018, we expect the loan to be fully repaid in January 2019.
